Indonesia has an ambition to replace 25% of fossil fuel with renewable energy source by 2025 (the program is known as Indonesia 25-25). A number of challenges will be faced by all stakeholders in realizing such a program, not only in technical and environmental aspects but also in regulations, pricing, social politics, etc. It is considerably important for Indonesia to get insight experience from other countries that have developed and also utilized renewable energy source such that the ambition could be realized successfully. Moreover, it could also be important for Indonesia to review the program to be more realistic with the existing (social-politicstechnical-etc) conditions. It is within this context, the energy roundtable workshop is conducted.
The aim of the workshop is to review Indonesia Energy Policy, to assess its challenges and opportunities, and to share experiences between Indonesia and Sweden in developing new and renewable energy. It is expected during the workshop that areas of possible cooperation between Indonesia and Sweden in development of new and renewable energy can be identified and a roadmap for future cooperation can be set-up. During the workshop, Indonesia energy policy, energy pricing policy and market development, and strategy for technology development will be presented. On the other hand, Sweden, as one of the leading countries in developing and utilizing renewable resources, will share its experiences starting from very beginning stage.
One or two cases of renewable energy resources that has been successfully developed and utilized, such as energy from municipal solid waste will be explained by invited speaker from Sweden. The presentation will include a step by step of the development, preparation of the society, development of regulation etc, and important challenges in that development and ways to cope them. On the second day, there will field trip to two locations where renewable energy is being utilized. The first location is Pantai Baru located in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta where hybrid energy (wind power, solar energy and biogas) is being used to produce electricity. The development of this hybrid energy and its utilization was initiated by the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek). Various ministries and institutions such as LAPAN, KKP, Faculty of Engineering UGM and Pemda Bantul are involved in this project. The second location is in Gamping’s Traditional Market located in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta where electricity is generated from organic waste. The project in Gamping was initiated by the Faculty of Engineering UGM and University of Boras Sweden. The project is supported by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA/NUTEK ) and The Government of Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. In addition to that, community-based organization namely Koperasi Gemah Ripah plays important role in implementing and maintaining the project.
