AnnouncementTo help accelerate the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia Faculty of Engineering Gadjah Mada University will jointly run a series of geothermal courses with GNS Science and The University of Auckland, New Zealand. The courses aim to build strong capacity of the Indonesian geothermal manpower, but it will also be attended by participants from the neighboring countries. The courses will be partly funded by the Government of New Zealand and sponsored by Gadjah Mada University.
The courses are organised by The Geothermal Research Center, Faculty of Engineering and will be held at the Faculty of Engineering Campus, Jalan Grafika 2, Yogyakarta. First circular and call for registrations will be issued in January 2012.
Course-1 : 3-D MODELLING OF GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM
Dates : 16th – 20th April
Level : Advanced
Suitable audience: Geoscientists, Engineers, Geothermal Project Managers
This course aims at providing an introduction to 3D modelling applied to geothermal system using the latest software. The course program includes lectures on the state of the art of geothermal system modelling, practical individual exercises and group exercise. Participants are welcome to bring their own data to be used for individual exercise.
Instructors: Samantha Alcaraz, Khasani & Pri Utami
Course-2 : BASIC GEOTHERMAL GEOSCIENCES & ENGINEERING
Dates : 5th – 13th July
Level : Basic
Suitable audience: Geoscientists and engineers who need geoscience background in geothermal geoscience and engineering.
The course provides introduction to state of the art geoscientific investigation techniques for geothermal field development, with case studies. The course details the importance of strong scientific/engineering judgment for the selection of techniques, and the need for good quality geoscientific data in order to build sound conclusions/recommendations at each stage of a geothermal project. Course activities include lecture, laboratory and field exercises, group projects, and a field trip.
Instructors : Greg Bignall & Pri Utami (Geology), Rob Reeves & Agung Harijoko (Geochemistry), Ed Mrozeck (Scaling and corrosion) Supri Soengkono & Wahyudi (Geophysics), Borehole imaging (David MacNamara), Sadiq Zarrouk, Khasani & M.A. Bramantya (Engineering)
Course-3 : GEOTHERMAL RESERVOIR CHARACTERISATION
Dates : September 2012 (exact dates TBA)
Level : Advanced
Suitable audience: Geothermal Geoscientist and Engineers
The course provides advanced background knowledge on the use of integrated geoscience (geology, geochemistry, and geophysics) and engineering methods to characterise geothermal reservoirs. The course includes lectures, individual practical exercises, group projects, and discussions.
Instructors: Ed Mrozeck, Paul Bixley, Chris Bromley, Wahyudi, Wiwit Suryanto, Pri Utami & Khasani
