The doctoral degree program in Japan for JFY 2013 is for the enrollment of the student in Japan during September 2013 - April 2014. Eligible applicants are faculty staff or AUN/SEED-Net's graduates from all MIs (except those from Singapore and Brunei).The applicants must send their application through their MI with endorsement letter from either the rector or the dean. PT. RPI memproduksi papan partikel dengan limbah kayu yang dikumpulkan dari pabrik kayu lokal. Berkurangnya luas hutan hujan tropis telah menjadi persoalan global. PT RPI telah memulai pembibitan yang akan digunakan untuk penghijauan. Bahkan nantinya akan dapat digunakan sebagai bahan mentah untuk produksi papan partikel di masa depan.

The AUN/SEED-Net Project with support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provides scholarships for prospective applicants from AUN-SEED/Net Member Institutions to pursue doctoral degrees in engineering at one of the following Japanese Supporting Universities: Hokkaido University, Keio University, Kyoto University, Kyushu University, Tokai University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Toyohashi University of Technology, University of Tokyo, Shibaura Institute of Technology, and Waseda University.

After a very successful climate projection downscaling pilot training programme launched last year, we are happy to announce the November 2012 Training Programme on Climate Change Downscaling Approaches and Applications that will be held in Thailand with the support of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Chulalongkorn University as local organizers. These training sessions were developed under the framework of University Network for Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation Research (UN-CECAR). The objectives of the programme are to assess the impact of climate change in a region and to reduce their vulnerabilities through the latest technologies and methodologies necessary to downscale and the appropriate use of downscaled information. The training module consists of the following course categories: science of climate change and downscaling, dynamical and statistical downscaling methods, impacts on rice production and impacts on floods in Asia. Participants will also receive practical training in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in downscaling and modelling extreme climatic events.

YOGYAKARTA – Bencana banjir bandang yang melanda Kota Padang pada 24 Juli lalu diketahui menimbulkan kerugian beberapa rumah hanyut, ratusan rumah terendam dan pengungsi mencapai 1.200 jiwa. UGM mengirimkan tim peneliti untuk meneliti faktor penyebab banjir serta membangun kesiapsiagaan masyarakat dalam menghadapi peristiwa serupa. Selama dua hari, 28-29 Juli, dari hasil temuan tim menduga bahwa banjir bandang tersebut terjadi akibat bendung alam di aliran sungai Limau Manis yang ada di bukit barisan. “Dugaan kami, sungai limau manis mengalami pembendungan alam akibat erosi,” kata Dr. Salahuddin Husein kepada wartawan, Senin (13/8).
